Technical Manager of Rivers United, Stanley Eguma explained that a poor start to the
second half cost his side maximum points in Wednesday’s rescheduled Nigeria
Professional Football League (NPFL) clash against Kano Pillars.
Godbless
Asamoah had given United the lead in first half stoppage time with a supreme
finish but Amos Gyang scored a stunning header in the second half to hand Kano
Pillars a deserved point in the game.
“We started
well but lost concentration early in the second half. My players relaxed in the early moments of the
second half and that is why we conceded that goal. That goal put pressure on us and we failed to
settle afterwards. When you take things for granted, you pay dearly for it,” Eguma said.
The point
means Rivers United stay in 13th place on the NPFL standings as they continue
their tepid start to the season while Pillars climb two places to 11th.
United will
now look to put their NPFL campaign back on track on Sunday in Akure when they
face Sunshine Stars in a game that will be live on SuperSport9 from 4:15 pm.
