Shooting Stars Sports club (3SC) FC of Ibadan thrashed visiting Kano
Pillars 4-0 on matchday 33 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) at the
Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan on Sunday evening.
After both teams had sized each other up in the opening
minutes, the Oluyole Warriors went straight into business with man of the
match, Ifegwu Ojukwu, running in and shaking off the challenge from Pillars
central defender, Jamiu Alimi, to draw the first blood in the 9th minute.
The duo of Gambo Mohammed and Rabiu Ali, highly influential
in the Pillars system, looked temporarily like they will rally their side back
to contention but Shooting Stars had other ideas in their script as Ifegwu and
Adetunji Sunday set up mercurial Ajani Ibrahim in a goalmouth rush and he tapped
in to make life more difficult for the visitors before the break.
At resumption of play in the second half, Shooting Stars
immediately resumed the mauling with Adetunji Sunday scoring from a goal mouth
situation and celebrated with Salsa steps to the delight of the home
supporters.
With three goals down, Pillars looked psychologically
drained, resulting in a brief altercation between Rabiu Ali and Jamiu Alimi
before the latter was replaced with Jonathan Zikiye.
Even at that, there was no escape for Pillars from a fired up
Shooting Stars side who had been humiliated six-nil in the first meeting in
Kano this season.
Adetunji Sunday then rounded goalkeeper Yusuf Mohammed and
kicked towards empty goal but Jonathan Zikiye made a goalline clearance. Still
hungry for more, Adetunji popped up again and delivered his brace in the 64th
minute to completely deflate Pillars.
