Our tactics worked against MFM, Says Abdullahi

Warri Wolves head coach Mansur Abdullahi has explained that their tactical approach against Mountain of Fire and Miracles ministries (MFM) FC in the week 31 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) match  helped them to secure a draw. The match which was played at the Agege Township Stadium on Wednesday ended 1-1.

Obinna Eleje stunned  the Agege fans when his long range shot in the 54th minute beat MFM FC goalkeeper, Abayomi Folarin who failed to get his hand on to the ball. The last 16 minutes of the encounter witnessed a defining moment for coach Ilechukwu and his wards when experienced forward Isah Akor headed in the equaliser for the home side.

Speaking with Sportinglens.blogspot.com, Abdullahi says he had  to use more defenders to stand a chance against a “very good team” which was comfortable with the ball.

“We came here with tactics, that at least, we should get a draw but unfortunately we missed a last minute goal opportunity to score the winning goal. I used more defenders having know that this guys (Warri Wolves) didn’t train in the last five days and the only way to play a team like MFM is to have more defenders that can work, one of my defenders who was substituted did a lot of damage on Onuwa (Chukwuka), he didn’t allow Onuwa to play his game and come near our defenders,” Abdullahi told Sportinglens.blogspot.com.

Abdullahi also expressed confident that the Seasiders will maintain its league status at the end of the season.

“After the end of week 38 we will surely escape relegation. We have picked a point away now and who says we can’t pick another point away. What we need to do as a team now is to ensure that we win all our remaining home matches to get 50 points if at all we can’t get point away before the end of the season,” he said.
