Cristiano Ronaldo has been named UEFA’s Best Player in
Europe 2016, beating Antoine Griezmann and Real Madrid teammate Gareth Bale. Ronaldo topped a vote of journalists ahead of Bale and
Atletico Madrid’s Griezmann, claiming the award for the second time, the first
in 2014.
The Madrid forward enjoyed a year in which he won the
Champions League with his club and Euro 2016 with his country, captaining
Portugal to victory over Griezmann’s France.
Bale and Griezmann joined Ronaldo in the top three as picked
by reporters across Europe, Bale part of the Madrid side that won in Milan and
impressing for Wales over the summer and Griezmann starring for Champions
League runners-up Atletico.
