Arsenal sink Man City to set up Chelsea FA Cup final

Alexis Sanchez struck an extra-time winner as Arsenal came from behind to beat Manchester City 2-1 in their FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.

Sergio Aguero had put City ahead with a fine breakaway goal just after the hour having had another strike controversially ruled out – but Nacho Monreal equalised.

City twice hit the woodwork in the latter stages of normal time through Yaya Toure and Fernandinho but Sanchez, recently linked with City, pounced for a 101st-minute winner after a goalmouth scramble.

A tireless performance out wide for the Gunners, both in attack and defence. He did well to keep City dangerman Leroy Sane quiet and his cross for Monreal’s equaliser was exquisite. His dipping delivery dropped perfectly over the heads of the City defence for Monreal to volley in at the back post.

City were controversially denied a goal late in the first half after a cross from Sane was ruled to have curled out of play before Aguero drove in a shot Petr Cech could not prevent crossing the line. It was a very tight call, with perhaps just millimetres in it, but it was nevertheless a wrong decision.

Incidents such is this in big games will undoubtedly fuel calls for greater use of technology.
