Super Eagles
technical adviser Gernot Rohr has hinted that Nigeria Professional Football
League (NPFL) hotshot, Stephen Odey and other local players will have to pass
through the Super Eagles Team B, otherwise known as the CHAN team before the
national team chance.
The German
was widely criticised by Nigeria football lovers for leaving out NPFL players from
his last Super Eagles list for the friendly game against Senegal.
Odey is the
leading goals scorer in the NPFL with 14 goals and Nigerians were of the views
that he deserved a chance in the Super Eagles based on his current form.
But when
answering question from the journalists at the Agege Stadium after the matchday
18 league encounter between Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries (MFM) FC
and El Kanemi Warriors, Rohr said Odey and his colleagues need to work harder
to get the Super Eagles chances.
He added
that his assistants, Salisu Yusuf and Imama Amapakabo are monitoring the
development of the NPFL players.
“I have seen
some players who can come in, they have to work so much. It's not easy to work
on old generation synthetic ground, they did well.
''First step
is to come in the CHAN team, the local Super Eagles team, my assistants Salisu Yusuf
and Imama Amapakabo know all the players. We always want to have the best team
of Super Eagles. To come in this team, the players must be very strong. The
door is open and I'm waiting for the next selection of CHAN team then I will
have a look. When the local team played in Spain I took two of them,'' Rohr
said.
