The
media officer of Gombe United Halilu Mohammed Teli have allegedly claimed that the supporters of Wikki
Tourists FC of Bauchi harassed and attacked their supporters during Sunday’s Nigeria
Professional Football League (NPFL) clash at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa
Stadium, Bauchi.
In a
release made available to Sportinglens.blogspot.com, Teli added that their fans who traveled for the match sustained various degree of injury while other battled for their lives after

reports that the game was stopped for some minutes when men of the Nigerian Police
Force fired tear gas to disperse fans who encroached the pitch. It was unclear
whose supporters were chased away by the police.
“It's disheartening that the act of hooliganism is gradually
returning to our stadia after a wonderful job by NPFL/LMC,” Teli started in his
release.
“What happened in Bauchi in the NPFL week 18 fixture Wikki
Tourists vs Gombe United where supporters of Wikki descended on our supporters
with stones and all available dangerous materials calls for disciplinary action
from the league organisers to serve as a deterrent to others.
“Despite leading us by 3-1, Wikki Supporters attacked and
destroyed our bands with some of the Gombe United supporters sustaining various
degree of injuries and others battles for their lives after inhaling tear gas
fired by the security operatives who were also attacked by the Wikki
supporters. In as much we want our league to grow, necessary actions must be
taken in order to sanitize the league,” he concluded.
