Players and
officials of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan have heaved a sigh of relief
after their stand-in skipper, Promise Ebiaku was discharged from hospital after he was certified
okay to leave the medical facility.
The victory
song of the Oluyole Warriors' 1-0 win over hard fighting Enyimba FC in the
match day 31 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) clash at the
Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan on Sunday was almost marred by an
awkward collapse of Ebiaku midway into the exciting encounter.
Ebiaku had gone
with a sweeping tackle against a rampaging opponent but landed on his head and
passed out.
The sudden
and unusual gesticulations of few players around the area attracted the
referee's attention to Ebiaku's almost lifeless body.
The incident
prompted the arrival of combined medics and ambulance who resuscitated him to a
conscious state before he was drove out in the ambulance for further medical
attention.
The game
would then resumed afterwards, the zeal and enthusiasm in the mammoth crowd had
mellowed and they had to defy the heavy rainfall immediately after the final
whistle to visit the stadium medical center to satisfy their curiosity about
the player.
Teammates
and officials of the club had to suspend their excitement about the result to
check on Ebiaku who was already in a better condition and even jokingly
enquired about the incident from the doctor. The player was subsequently
discharged after he was certified okay to leave the medical facility.
Meanwhile,
the game had started on frenetic height with Shooting Stars attacking pair,
Ajani Ibrahim and Abu Azeez probing for early goals hinging on smooth passes
from Ayobami in the middle and Wasiu from right.
Enyimba FC
had their goalkeeper - Fatau Dauda to thank as he was up and doing but he could
not stop the sleek shot to his left by Adebayo Abayomi off a pass at the 8th
minute to register the only goal of the balanced encounter.
The former
league champions gave a good response but Shooting Stars resolute defence
effectively checked their trio of Mfom Udoh, Ibenegu and Ibrahim Mustafa to
make the return of Gbenga Ogunbote to Ibadan, a futile one.
It was a
good result and would impact on the survival ambition of the club from
relegation.
