Ten out of
30 players invited to the home-based Super Eagles camp for their 5th African
Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifying fixture in the ancient city of Kano
would be drooped, reports SportingLife exclusively.
The home
–based professionals are expected to resume camp on Monday for the qualifying
game against either of Benin Republic or Togo for a place in Kenya in 2018.
A source
close to the technical crew revealed to SportingLife that the team chief coach
Salisu Yusuf will only travel with 20 players for their first leg encounter which will be played in Cotonou or Lome on 13th August.
“It is not
possible to travel with 30 players and only 20 players would be retained after
their final training session. Every player would be treated equally and will be
allowed to display their talents. We are hopeful that the best team would be
picked at the end of the camping,” a source told SportingLife.
At the last
edition of the CHAN tournament held in Rwanda in 2016, the home-based Eagles
led by Coach Sunday Oliseh crashed out at the group stage, finishing third in
their group behind Tunisia and Guinea who advanced into the quarterfinals.
Having
missed out on the earlier editions, Nigeria made their CHAN debut in the 2014
edition held in South Africa where they finished third.
The Super
Eagles’ delegation will depart for the away match on 11th August, which will be
played in Cotonou or Lome on 13th August and return to Kano to continue camping
for the second leg, which will come up on 19th August.
