Roma
defender Antonio Rudiger is on the cusp of completing a transfer move to
Chelsea, according to reports.
Antonio
Conte is on the hunt for John Terry’s long-term replacement at Stamford Bridge
and Rudiger, 24, will join the Premier League champions imminently, with the
Blues agreeing a deal.
The Daily
Mirror claims the Germany centre-back has now arrived in London to seal a
£36million move ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.
Rudiger is
set to undergo a medical at Chelsea before putting pen to paper on a contract
made up of £31m plus £5m in add-ons.
Chelsea have
also expressed a strong interest in Southampton star Virgil van Dijk this
summer but the German arrives at Stamford Bridge as a significantly cheaper
alternative.
It’s
understood Juventus’ Leonardo Bonucci and Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng were
also firmly on Conte’s radar.
When asked
about his future after Germany’s Confederations Cup triumph, Rudiger responded:
“It’s not about the future now, it’s now about enjoyment. I need to enjoy this
moment and I’m enjoying it to the fullest. The rest we will see in the coming
weeks.”
