Lionel Messi and his new wife Antonella Roccuzzo have donated leftover food and drink from their glamorous wedding to a local charity. Barcelona star Messi married his childhood sweetheart, and mother of his two children, in his home town of Rosario in Argentina last Sunday.
According to
Pablo Algrain, director of the Rosario Food Bank, they had received so much
leftovers following the ceremony and reception, they weren't even sure how much
they had been given.
Algrain told
news agency Efe: 'It all arrived to the store and we're controlling it. We
don't yet know quite how much there is.
'We
explained to the wedding organisers that we can accept soft drinks and snacks,
but that we'd have to change alcoholic drinks for money because we cannot
accept them.'
Messi's
marriage had been dubbed the 'wedding of the century' by Argentinian media,
with many of the greatest names in football present at the ceremony.
Around 250
guests including Messi's former team-mates at the Nou Camp such as Xavi, Carles
Puyol, Cesc Fabregas and Samuel Eto'o were there, as were current Catalan stars
Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets.
Messi's
team-mate for both club and country, Javier Mascherano, also showed up joined
by Argentina players Angel Di Maria, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Sergio Aguero.
