Biffo warns players: Don't get carried away by win over Lobi Stars

By Taofeek Babalola

Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia Chief Coach, Abdullahi Usman Biffo has charged his players not lose focus by their astonishing 4-2 away victory over Lobi Stars in a week 33 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) encounter in Makurdi on Sunday, Sportinglens.blogspot.com reports.

The former Kogi United manager urged his wards to work harder and build on the win for better results in future.

The Umuahia-based outfit produced the biggest result last weekend which ended Lobi Stars’ 80-match unbeaten home run at the Aper Aku Stadium Makurdi dating back to 2013.

Biffo told the boys to consolidate on the achievement by performing better in their subsequent matches instead of thinking they have arrived.

Describing the away win as sweet, the former Niger Tornadoes of Minna tactician said the entire team was pushed to the wall after three consecutive goalless draws in the league and had resolved to start the resurgence with the game in Makurdi.

"We thank the Almighty God for the victory which has reduced the pressure on us but we also have to note that we are still not completely safe so we continue to battle. Instead of celebrating the victory too much, we should consolidate on it and try as much as possible to do well in our subsequent matches," Biffo said.

The former Giwa FC gaffer reminded his that the NPFL is so competitive that any point at this moment could be very precious, insisting that they cannot afford to disappoint the government and good people of Abia State who he said have shown them so much love.

Responding on behalf of his colleagues, Abia Warriors Captain, Austin Obaroakpo said the achievement against Lobi came as a result of collective effort by all the stakeholders and pledged that they will try as much as possible to make them proud at the end of the season.
