Super Eagles
chief coach Salisu Yusuf has named 20 players that will don the colour of
Nigeria for Sunday’s 2018 African Nations Championship qualifying match against
Benin Republic.
The former
Kano Pillars manager dropped 10 players out of 30 players invited to their training
camp in Kano.
Notable omissions in the list are Kano Pillars
defender, Jamiu Alimi, FC Ifeanyi Ubah striker Prince Aggreh, Lobi Stars
goalkeeper Goalkeeper Okemuite Odah.
Abia
Warriors Sunday Adetunji and Plateau United captain Elisha Golbe were dropped due
to injury they picked up while featuring for their clubs in the Nigeria
Professional Football League (NPFL) clash last weekend. Also Enyimba of Aba captain,
Mfon Udoh was left out of the team due to an injury he suffered in a warm up
clash between CHAN Eagles and Kano Selected which ended 1-1 on Wednesday.
Others dropped
players are Austin Oladapo, Chinedu Ajanah, and Emeka Atuloma.
However, the
former Enyimba of Aba gaffer opted for goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Ikechukwu
Ezenwa, Theophilus Afelokhai and Dele Ajiboye.
In the
defense, he picked Orji Kalu, Stephen Eze, Ariwachukwu Emmanuel, Chima Akas,
Nasiru Sani, Osas Okoro.
The midfield
will include Hafiz Aremu, Raphael Ayagwa, Ifeanyi Ifeanyi, Rabiu Ali, Samuel
Mathias and Alhassan Ibrahim.
The Mountain
of Fire and Miracle Ministries duo of Sikiru Olatubosun and Stephen Odey will lead
the attacking line which includes Thomas Zenke, Kingsley Eduwo and Ifeanyi
George.
The team is
expected to fly from Kano to Lagos on Friday and then make the short trip to
Cotonou by road same day for the game slated for Sunday.
The return
leg will hold at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano on Saturday, 19th August, with
the winner qualifying for the 5th African Nations Championship scheduled for
Kenya early next year.
