Gombe United's Abbani wins VAT Wonder Goal 9

Gombe United forward, Sani Abbani hs emerged the winner of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) VAT Wonder Goal 9 for Match Day 28 in a close race that saw him edge closest rival, Sunshine Stars Joseph Abiodun with Abu Azeez of Shooting Stars coming a distant third.

Interestingly, the Sand Eagles star, Azeez was the runaway winner for fans who voted on the twitter platform; gathering 53 percent of the total 305 votes but fell far behind on the website polls where he picked just 50 of the total 1008 votes.

On the other hand, Abiodun cam second on all the polls but was unable to secure sufficient numbers to upstage Abbani who finished bottom of the tally on the twitter platform.

Votes on the website were nearly evenly shared between Abbani and Abiodun but it was the Gombe United player that carried the day with a total of 524 bringing his combined votes on the website and twitter to 582.

Abiodun had 434 votes from the website polls and another impressive 85 votes of the 305 from the twitter. Abbani thus becomes the VAT Wonder Goal Award’s ninth winner with his goal scored on Match Day 28 against North East neighbours, El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri in his side’s 2-0 win.

Abbani will receive a cash reward of N150, 000 and I expected to nominate a charity based in the state for donation off half of the prize.

The VAT Wonder Goal award is corporate social investment of the League Management Company (LMC) and is supported by the Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS), using the league platform to promote its tax education campaign.
