Lobi Stars’ 80-game home run ended by Abia Warriors

Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia produced the biggest result of match-day 33 in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) with a comprehensive 4-2 win over Lobi Stars at the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi on Sunday.


The Umuahia-based side went into the game with just one point above the relegation zone while their hosts were hope to consolidate on their eighth position on the log.

It proved to be an unforgettable game for the home fans because the visitors secured their second away game of the season and effectively ended a run of 80 home matches for the Makurdi based side.

Lobi Stars have now lost a home game in the league for the 1st time since 07/07/2013 when they lost 4-3 to Bayelsa United.

Kingsley Eduwo put the home side in front with a beautiful strike to send the crowd wild but Sunday Adetunji drew the visitors level to end the first half 1-1.

Abia Warriors took the lead through Anthony Okemmiri in the 61st minute before Sunday Adetunji netted his brace seven minutes later to extend their lead to 3-1.

That goal made six away goals for Adetunji this season, three more than any other player in the league. He was later taken to the hospital for a broken hand.

Chinenye Agoha gave coach Abdullahi Biffo tutored side a three-goal lead on third minute of added time to finally nail the coffin of the coach Solomon Ogbeide led side.

In the 96th minute of added time Eduwo scored a consolation goal for the home side to end the game 4-2.


The win moved Abia Warriors to 12th position with 44 points from 15th position while Lobi Stars dropped to 10th position from 8th position.
