The nominations for the 2017 edition of the prestigious Nigerian Sports Award (NSA) are now open for Nigerians to nominate individuals and teams who have distinguished themselves in their various sporting events for the categories of the award, Sportinglens.blogspot.com can reveal.

Addressing sports journalist in Lagos today, Chairman of the Award Committee, Mr. Kweku Tandoh, said the nomination started on Tuesday, August 15.

The award ceremony comes up on November 17, 2017 at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island.

The member of the public can nominate their preferred athletes through website www.nigeriansportsaward.com/nominations, social media (facebook, twitter; @ngrsportsaward(#NSA2017), instagram, youtube) and manual forms.

Mr Tandoh while unveiling plans for the 2017 edition explained that the committee will focus on five key areas.

According to him, the committee would increase the visibility of the award by giving it a wider recognition across the country.

He also said the NSA will improve on the content of the award and the sponsorship.

Tandoh stated further the committee will introduce a charity initiative where recipients of the award would give back to the society as a form of Corporate Social Responsibility.

The former Director of Sports, Lagos State and General Secretary of the Main Organizing Committee of the Eko 2012, National Sports Festival said the committee will work on the re-categorization of the award by remove or add to the categories of the award.

“The new committee is ready to build on the achievement of the past panel. I believe NSA is an award that has received wider recognition and we will try our best to improve on it. All men and women as well as teams that have distinguished themselves in the year in review would be duly recognized. And I want to urge the public to nominate because that is the first thing to be done before an athlete can be recognized for the award,” Tandoh said.
