Abia
Warriors Manager Kennedy Boboye has described their win over Akwa United in a
week 10 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) in Uyo as a hard fought
victory.
The Umuahia-based
side maintained their unbeaten run to the season with a 2-1 away victory over the
Promise Keepers.
Boboye, who joined the team at the beginning of
the season from Sunshine Stars of Akure, commended his boys for their
resilience and determination which, he noted, gave them the day.
Kufre Ebong
had given the home side the lead in the 11th minute following a mix up in Abia
Warriors' defence but two quickfire goals from son of the soil, Ndifreke
Effiong in the 39th minute and Anthony Okemmiri at the dot of 45 minute ensured
the Warriors went into the tunnel with some psychological advantage.
When play
resumed, the two sides effected their maximum substitutions but it was Abia
Warriors who would have made the game safer if their strikers were more
articulate in front of goal but it did not matter as the defenders, led by
Super Eagles hardman, Austin Obaroakpo kept the home attackers under control
until the centre referee, Foluso Ajayi sounded the last blast of her whistle.
Ere Dokubo,
who spoke on behalf of the Akwa United technical crew, said their plan was to
consolidate at home after they won away against El-Kanemi Warriors in Katsina
describing the home loss as a bitter pill to swallow.
Abia
Warriors remain the only team in the premier league yet to lose a game this
season with four wins and five draws.
