Lobi Stars
forward Barnabas Nenen Imenger has described his goal against Akwa United as a
sign of good thing to come for him and his club this season.
Imenger
Jnr’s 47th minute goal was all Lobi Stars needed to secure a 1-0 win over Akwa
United in a week 12 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) match at
the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi on Sunday.
The Super
Eagles star, who has endured a frustrated time this season due to injury,
collected Anthony Okpotu pass in the box and sent a back heel at goal to earn
all important three points for his team.
In a
telephone chat with SportingLife, Nenen said he is ready to give all his best
to his team while thanking God for his recent fine form.
He added
that the win over Akwa United will be a morale booster for him and his team
towards achieving their set goals for the season.
“I thank God
for the goal and the win for the team,” Imenger Jnr said to SportingLife. “The
win is a morale booster for me and my team. There is tremendous change in the
team now and we are doing fine at the moment. I am fully fit and I am back, and
by the grace of God everything will be alright. Our fans should expect best
from me and the team.”
Nenen’s goal
against Akwa United was his third goal this season. He scored his first goal in
the game against El Kanemi in a 3-0 whitewashed in Makurdi. He netted the
second goal when he rescued a point for his team in a 1-1 home draw against
Wikki Tourists.
Nenen, who
was on loan at Kano Pillars last season, believes the Makurdi-based side can
achieve its set goal this season as he said the team is one family.
“Coach
Godwin Uwua and the management team are doing a great job in the club and we
are in one accord which is really working for the team. I believe at the end of
the season we will get our set target,” he said.
Meanwhile,
Barnabas Imenger Snr has prayed for an injury free season for Nenen.
“Thank God
that he is back to his best and I pray for his injury free season. We thank God
that our team is doing well too.”
