Two second
half goals were all El Kanemi Warriors needed to beat shooting Stars Sports
club (3SC) of Ibadan in a week 11 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) match at the
El Kanemi Stadium, Maiduguri on Sunday.
The game was the El Kanemi’s first league game in Maiduguri after three years of playing away from their home ground.
After first
half goalless draw, El Kanemi Warriors broke the deadlock in the 51st
minute through Ibrahim Mustapha’s
goal to the delight of the jubilant fans that came to the stadium en masse to
cheer their darling team. Chinedu Ohanachom added the second goal in the 86th minute to secure all
three points at stake in the match.
The game attracted
huge fans who had waited for years for a top flight action like this because of
Book Haram menace which forced Borno Armies to play their games at the Karkanda
Stadium in Katsina.
Speaking after
the match, the team’s technical adviser, Ladan Bosso said the win over 3SC was a
good gift for their fans.
“It was a
good game and massive crowd here. I said it before the game that we won’t disappoint
our fans and I am happy that we delivered. This is a better way to say thank
you to our fans that have been supporting us despite the fact that we were
playing away from home. I am not surprised to see them in their numbers here
because it really showed that they have been missing league action,” Bosso
said.
