Zinedine
Zidane admits Real Madrid must accept they are “always” favourites after being
drawn against Manchester City in the Champions League semi-finals.
City were
the team Madrid fans most wanted in the last four, according to a poll by AS,
with the Premier League club’s sporting director Txiki.
Begiristain
hinting Los Blancos were the favourites to progress in the tie, but Zidane
disagreed with the notion they were given an easy draw.
“It’s a very
difficult semi-final,” the Coach said at a Press conference ahead of Madrid’s
match against Getafe in La Liga on Saturday.
“The only
positive thing is that we play the second leg at home.
“I see two
tough matches, which both teams will dispute fully.
“[On Txiki
Begiristain’s remark before the game], we’re always considered favourites.
“That’s how
it is at Madrid, but we don’t care. We know how difficult it’ll be in the
semi-finals against City, so we’ll prepare like we usually do.
“I don’t
agree with that [on whether City are the easiest team to be drawn].
“Look at
Wolfsburg, we lost 2-0 in the first leg and it was very difficult.
“I don’t
want to hear [it was an easy tie]. To go through, we have to play against who
we’re given. I see three other strong teams.”
