The
Argentine forward netted in the 63rd minute of Sunday's Liga clash with
Valencia to bring up the landmark.
Messi, who
was making his 525th appearance for Barca, has now scored an incredible 450
goals for the Liga champions, while he has a total of 50 for Argentina from his
107 caps for the national team.
The
28-year-old scored his first goal for Barca back in May 2005 against Albacete
as a 17-year-old, while his first strike for the national team came a little
under a year later in March 2006 during a 3-2 friendly defeat to Croatia.
With his 450
goals for Barca, Messi is way out in front as the club's all-time leading
scorer, while his 50 for Argentina puts him in second place in the list of the
national team's highest ever scorers, six behind Gabriel Batistuta.
When
compared to Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, who hit the 500 career-goals
mark back in September 2015, Messi is currently trailing by 39 goals, with the
Portuguese having scored his 539th after netting in the club's 5-1 win over
Getafe.
