King Osanga’s goal ends Abia Warriors unbeaten run

Warri Wolves ended Abia Warriors FC unbeaten record after 10 matches as they lost 1-0 in a rescheduled Week 7 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) game at the Warri Township Stadium on Thursday.

The former youth international King Osanga scored the decider with a 53rd minute strike with an assist from Solomon Okpako to give the Seasiders maximum three points at stake in the match which leapfrog the Warri-based outfit to the top-half in the NPFL table.

Despite the loss, Abia Warriors remain in second place with 20 points, one behind table-topping Enugu Rangers.

King and Solomon Okpako were the most hardworking players on the Warri Wolves side though, tormenting their defence at will but finding it difficult to get shots on target or at goal.

In one of those moments, the home side got a penalty in the 44th minute for handball in the box.

Uzezi Oghenewo stepped forward to take it but Chinedu Anozie saved and bravely stopped Uzezi who hit another effort off the rebound.

At the restart, Kennedy Boboye threw in Chisom Chikatara for Kabiru Ayinde in the 51st minute but two minutes later, Solomon Okpako broke the offside trap and laid on for Osanga to score the only goal of the game.
With victory slipping away from him, Boboye threw in former Under-17 international, Stanley Okoro for Godwin Effiong and Abia Warriors took the game to Warri Wolves but just could not score.

In the 78th minute, Semiu Liadi who had come on for a fatigued Obinna Nwokolo, lost the ball in midfield, but Dele Ajiboye saved from Chisom Chikatara.

With Stanley Okoro, Chisom Chikatara, Ndifreke Effiong, Anthony Okemmiri and Michael Olaha asking questions of the Warri Wolves defence, it was a mystery the equalizer did not come.

Three corner kicks in quick succession, but Ajiboye was at the top of his game.

With four minutes to go, Warri Wolves launched a counter but King Osanga and Solomon Okpako made one pass too many and the visitors recovered to keep the score line the same at the full time whistle.
