Technical report stalls decision on foreign coach for Super Eagles

A final decision on whether Nigeria will hire a foreign coach or not will be taken after a comprehensive report from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is submitted to the country’s sports minister in a month.
Nigerian sports minister Solomon Dalung made this disclosure when he briefed the media after a meeting with the leadership of the NFF in Abuja on Tuesday.

“We debated extensively on the issue of a foreign coach and it was agreed that the technical committee to make a case why we would need a foreign coach,” said Dalung.

“We need to know where we will get the funds, there should be an established source of funding for a foreign coach.

“I expect a report from the NFF in four weeks.”

Brazilian coach Otto Gloria and Dutchman Clemens Westerhof led Nigeria to win their first two AFCON titles in 1980 and 1994, respectively.

Former Nigeria skipper Stephen Keshi led the country to a third continental triumph three years ago.

Last week, the Super Eagles failed to qualify for a second straight AFCON when they lost 1-0 to Egypt in Alexandria.

They will now focus on the qualifying tournament for the 2018 World Cup, which begins in October.
