The Nigeria
duo of John Ogu and Anthony Nwakaeme have been crowned champions of the Israeli
top-flight side, Hapoel Beer Sheva on Saturday after defeating Bnei Sakhnin 3-1
in a nervy game.
The win
meant Beer Sheva have won their first Israeli Ligat title in 40 years and the
Nigerian pair have been instrumental to the success of the team this season.
Needing a
win in their last game and closely tailed by Maccabi Tel Aviv, Beer Sheva were
stunned in the sixth minute when Firas Mugrabi bundled home to give the
visitors the lead.
“God you are
the best..⚽️⚽️⚽️πππ..Champions. I dedicate it to everyone who supported me from
day 1.Thank You π΄⚪️π΄”
It did not
last long as Beer Sheva got into their stride and equalised 10 minutes later
through Maor Bar Buzaglo.
Two more
goals from Maor Melikson and Ben Sahar ensured Hapoel Beer Sheva ran out 3-1
winners on the night while adding the league diadem to the trophy cabinet.
Their
closest rivals Maccabi Tel Aviv smashed Maccabi Haifa 6-0 but it was little too
late as Beer Sheva got the points they needed to sew up the title.
Ogu, who was
recently named the best foreign import in the Israeli top flight has played 29
games for his team notching up three goals and providing four assists.
