Olorundare's winner ends Abia Warriors home record

A 90th minute strike by substitute Dele Olorundare gave Sunshine Stars a 2-1 win over Abia Warriors in a Match Day 19 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) game at the Umuahia Township Stadium on Sunday.

The outcome means Abia Warriors suffered its first home loss in the ongoing campaign and end the first stanza of the league in a defeat.

Sunshine Stars scored in the first minute of added time in the first half when Rasaq Adegbite capitalised on some careless defending to slot behind goalkeeper, Chinedu Anozie.

This was after Anozie had gone down injured and required medical attention.

Sunshine Stars held onto their lead until the 78th minute when substitute Obinna Eric Nwaimo drew level for the home side.

With the game seemingly poised to have the spoils shared by both sides, another substitute, Dele Olorundare ruined the fun for the home fans.

He dispossessed a defender of the ball, made a diagonal run taking out two defenders before blasting the ball behind Chinedu Anozie.

Coach of Abia Warriors, Kennedy Boboye, was visibly distraught after the game.

"It's sad for me. I just pray we can get a good result elsewhere.

"I feel very sad that we lost to a team like this. They were not fantastic. The problem we had is that my boys didn't play to instructions.

"The fans too should be patient. It didn't work for us today. It could work tomorrow," Kennedy Boboye said.

Solomon Ogbeide of Sunshine Stars claimed the win was not a surprise to him.

"It just shows our efforts are beginning to pay off. We worked hard for it. And it showed.

"The boys are beginning to adapt. We came here for a win and we got it," Ogbeide said.
