Rangers International
of Enugu coach, Imama Amapakabo struggled to come to terms with his side’s 3-1 defeat
to Rivers United in a week 14 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) clash
but stated that his players ‘gifted’ United the win.
A dazzling
first half performance by Rivers United gave the coach Stanley Eguma tutored-side
maximum three points in the game decided at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port
Harcourt on Sunday.
“We got it
wrong. Our turnover rate was so high today and psychologically, maybe (my
players) were not in it. When a team starts to function like that, it’s
worrisome.
“There was a
time (during the game) when we had a gulf between the attack and the midfield
and it’s always a problem when there is no link. We also gifted them the second
and third goals. We tried to fight back but it’s always hard trying to come
back from three goals down,” Amapakabo told Rivers United Media.
Rangers stay
top of the standings with 27 points from 14 matches despite the defeat in Port
Harcourt while United moved up to sixth with 22 points from 14 matches.
