Abia
Warriors returned to winning ways with a hard fought 1-0 victory over Niger
Tornadoes of Minna in one of the week nine Nigeria Professional Football League
(NPFL) games decided at the Umuahia.
The Warriors
last tasted victory against Oriental brothers, Heartland FC in Owerri last
month and drew their last four matches including three at home.
And it
seemed the jinx will not be broken after the home side fluffed many scoring
opportunities until 83rd minute when Chisom Chikatara broke the ice with a
close range finish assisted by his former New Generation FC team mate, Michael
Olaha.
The goal
disorganised the tactics of the Tornadoes who had remained resolute with some
hard defending.
Warriors
Manager, Kennedy Boboye said he was relieved to get another victory after a
long spell and expressed happiness that the winless streak had ended.
According to
him, his team, which has remained unbeaten this season has always dominated
their opponents in all their home and away games but could not just score
adding that they have been working on this.
He said the
victory has renewed their resolve to contest for the league title this season
insisting that he has the materials to achieve the feat.
On his own,
Abdullahi Usman Biffo who led Tornadoes to Umuahia said his team deserved a
better result after holding the home side for more than 80 minutes and announced
that they will do better in subsequent matches.
