Kano Pillars
secured a well deserved 2-0 victory over visiting FC Ifeanyi Ubah with a goal in
each half to keep alive their ambition of a fifth Nigeria Professional Football
League (NPFL) title.
Pillars
started on the back foot with Ngoma Luamba hitting a long range effort pushed
to safety by David Obiazo for the first shot on target in front of a capacity
crowd at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.
After the
scare, Pillars recovered with Prince Aggreh and Azeez Shobowale carving
openings for the home team with runs behind the defence of FC Ifeanyi Ubah who
struggled to cope with the pace of the duo in wide positions.
Shobowale
curled in a fine effort that sailed narrowly wide from the right before Adamu
Hassan missed a one-on-one with goalkeeper Uche Okafor of FC Ifeanyiubah
blocking his effort for a corner kick.
Pillars'
dominance grew as the game progressed and in the 28th minute Shagari Mohammed
was left unmarked on the right side of FC Ifeanyi Ubah's defence with acres of
space, and he whipped in a cross that was firmly met by Prince Aggreh for the
game's opening goal.
Further
chances came the way of Pillars to increase their lead but poor decision making
in the final third kept the scores at 1-0 as the teams head into the dressing
room for the break.
Two minutes after the restart Kano Pillars doubled their lead with Suleman Usman connecting
a corner kick from Shagari Mohammed at the far post further punishing FC
Ifeanyi Ubah for slack defending.
The goal
deflated the momentum FC Ifeanyi Ubah gathered during the half time break with
Pillars thrice coming close to putting the scoreline beyond the reach of the
team from Nnewi.
Kano Pillars
pacy trio of Shobowale, Hassan and Aggreh continued to torment the backline of
the visitors probing for the third goal which their dominance deserved but to
no avail.
