Rivers
United centre half, Gabriel Olalekan has moved to apologize for his mistakes in
Sunday’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) 2-3 reverse to Niger
Tornadoes in Lokoja.
Olalekan
appeared culpable for all three goals scored by the hosts, the first, ill times
bicycle which caught former teammate, Jackson Daniel in the face at the
Confluence Stadium, as United suffered a third straight loss on the road.
The defender
who was incidentally one of his side’s best performers on the day took the time
to apologize for the isolated moments of indiscretion, adding that he will put
things right in the coming games.
“I want to apologize to fans of Rivers United.
What happened on Sunday will never happen again.
“For the won goal, it has never happened in
all my time as a footballer and I prayed as soon as I (inadvertently headed
past) my own keeper (Godwin Anyalogu).
“The good thing is that I was able to compose
myself and finish the game well,” Olalekan told Rivers United media.
The former Sharks FC strong man concluded by discussing
the club’s poor record in away games this term.
United have
been beaten in all their travels so far as they lost to MFM in Lagos, Giwa FC
in Jos and most recently, Niger Tornadoes in Lokoja.
Olalekan says
things must improve rapidly and identifies Saturday’s match day seven NPFL
contest against 3SC in Ibadan as the moment when United will look to turn the
corner.
“We have lost three matches away from home but
this have to change. The players had a meeting and we have
resolved that we have to fight and work even harder as a team. The team has scored in every match we have
played this season so goal scoring has never been our problem.
“On Saturday, we go to Ibadan and we are happy
the game will be live on SuperSport.
“We will fight against 3SC and hopefully, we
will get a win against a very good side,” he said.
