Eduwo hat trick down Rangers

Lobi Stars forward, Kingsley Eduwo was the star attraction on Wednesday he netted a hat-trick against league leaders Rangers to help his team to a surprise 3-1 victory over the Flying Antelopes in a match day 8 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

The former Sunshine Stars striker scored twice in the first half as the Pride of Benue raced to a two-goal lead in Makurdi. Rangers reduced the tally after in-form Chisom Egbuchulam scored with seven minutes left but Eduwo swiftly dashed their hopes of getting something out of the game by completing his treble three minutes later as Lobi climbed to 3rd on the log, one point behind Rangers and second-placed MFM.

In Nnewi, millionaire club FC IfeanyiUbah managed to grind out a 1-0 win over Heartland in an Oriental Derby. Brazilian William Da Silva scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot early on as the Anambra Warriors continued their climb up the ladder. They are now placed 4th with a game in hand.

The other team to win on the day were newly promoted Niger Tornadoes who beat bad travellers Shooting Stars 2-1 in Lokoja. All goals in the contest were scored in the first half with Wilfried Angel (a free kick) and Lukman Mohammed scoring for Tornadoes before Babatunde Bright replied with his first goal (also a free kick) for Shooting Stars.

There were three goalless draws on Matchday 8 in Umuahia, Port Harcourt and Uyo. In Port Harcourt, Rivers United failed to take advantage of their first home game after two futile road travels to Lokoja and Ibadan. They were held to a goalless draw by Sunshine Stars, a result that has seen the club's management issue a 3-match ultimatum to Technical Manager Stanley Eguma to get results or get sacked.
