Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries Football Club (MFM
FC) of Lagos moved to the top of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL)
table after trashing El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri 3-1 in a week six
encounter at the Agege Stadium on Sunday.
The Olukoya Boys occupy
the top spot on the league table for the second time this season with 13 points
from a possible 18 in the ongoing NPFL season.
A goal each from Stephen Odey, Julius Emiloju and Onuwa
Chukwuka was all Olukoya Boys needed
to prove their superiority over the Borno Army who failed to use their Arsenal.
The host team started the game like a house on fire with a
couple of scoring opportunities as they dominated the first ten minutes of the
match.
El-Kanemi Warriors soaked up the pressure from the home side
and controlled the game for seven minutes with Chinedu Ohanachom troubling the
home teams defence.
Odey got the match opener in the 26th minute of the game with
a fine tap in as he connected a low pass from Sikiru Olatubosun to score his
second goal of the season.
Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu substituted Odey in the 32nd minute
of the match due to a knee injury cupped before netting the first goal, his
place was taken by pace attacker, Henry Abara.
The first 45 minutes ended with MFM FC maintaining a one-goal
lead.
The newly promoted Lagos side put the Borno Army to the sword
two minutes into the second half with defender, Julius Emiloju scoring the
second goal of the game with a brilliant finish off an assist from former
Nigeria under-20 star, Ifeanyi Ifeanyi.
Coach Ladan Bosso's men reduced the deficit in the 65th
minute of the game with the substitute Japhet Daniel scoring his side's only goal of the
encounter.
MFM FC's enterprising midfielder, Onuwa Chukwuka dashed the
hopes of the visitors in the 75th minute with the third goal of the day as he
restored his team’s two-goal cushion. He was assisted by Abara.
Coach Ilechukwu completed his substitution with two quick
changes as Adekunle Adegboyega came off the bench to replace Onuwa while
Captain, Nelson Kenedinum replaced Newman Musa.
The over 5,000 fans at the Agege Stadium were thrilled with
beautiful display of the round leather game by the home team as they applauded
the Olukoya Boys for adding another three points at home.
