Arsenal are
reportedly set to splash out €15m on Nigeria international and Roma striker
Umar Sadiq this summer.
According to
La Repubblica, as noted by Football Italia, the Gunners have been linked with
making a big-money offer for the youngster, after seeing an initial €13m bid
rejected.
Having
scored five goals in nine UEFA Youth League games this season, as well as
scoring twice in six Serie A appearances, Sadiq has certainly proved that he is
capable making a significant impact.
However,
still only 19, the money being offered by Arsenal would be a risk considering
that he has yet to fully convince at a high level on a consistent basis.
From Roma’s
perspective, it would be five times what they paid to sign him from Spezia, and
so the Giallorossi would certainly be interested in agreeing terms.
Nevertheless,
despite the fact that Arsenal have long been criticised for not having enough
options up front, signing an untested teenager would arguably do little to
silence their detractors.
With
supporters expecting a big move given that the likes of Edinson Cavani and
Gonzalo Higuain have previously been linked with a move to the Emirates, Sadiq
is unlikely to be the player that many had imagined.
