El-Kanemi
Warriors of Maidugiri stretched their unbeaten run to three with a 3-0 bashing
of Nasarawa United in a Match Day 9 fixture of the Nigeria Professional
Football League (NPFL) decided at the Karkanda Sports Complex in Katsina.
The hosts
showed early intentions as Ibrahim Mustapha and Chinedu Ohanachom unleashed
quick strikes, forcing Nasarawa United goalkeeper Dami Paul into making several
saves until Samson Gbadebo handled the ball in the box, thereby conceding a
penalty and a caution. Auta Yakubu made no mistake as he perfectly converted
from the spot in the 11th minute.
The visitors
however did not relent but powered in strikes through Abdulrahman Bashir and
Esosa Igbinoba. Emmanuel Makama's left-footed shot almost put the Solid Miners
on level terms, no thanks to the alertness of El-Kanemi goalkeeper George
Michael who denied the Lafia club from scoring.
Igbinoba's
goal on 30 minutes was disallowed for offside by the centre referee after the
assistant referee at the flank had already flagged down for a goal.
Ibrahim
Mustapha of the Warriors was unlucky not to be on the score sheet after
rounding the goalkeeper but failed to hit the back of the net. The contest
ended 1-0 in the first half. On return after the break, the visitors took over
possession but were wasteful severally in front of goal.
Super-sub
Daniel Japhet who came on for Thompson Ezekiel made it two-nil to the hosts
with a low finish from inside the box, three minutes from time while Chinedu
Ohanachom's solo effort and a chip over Dami Paul put the icing on the cake.
El-Kanemi
Warriors are now unbeaten in three matches and will hope to stretch it as they
hosts Akwa United in a rescheduled NPFL match on Wednesday.
