A University
of Maiduguri student Hussaini Bata Muhammad has expressed happiness at making
his Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) debut for El Kanemi Warriors of
Maiduguri, in a match day one game against Wikki Tourists in Katsina.
The 100
level student of the school’s Department of Education, played for 30 minutes
after coming on as a substitute in the 1-0 home defeat to Wikki Tourists.
Mohammed was
a delight to watch throughout his time on the pitch and the left winger could have
scored in the 78th minute but Wikki Tourists goalkeeper Emeka Nwabulu denied
him the chance.
“I am happy
to play my first league match with El Kanemi Warriors. This has been my dream
but I never knew it will come soon; I am very grateful to the club’s chairman
Alhaji Zanna Mohammed, the management, coach Bosso and his technical crew for
this opportunity given to me,” Muhammed told SportingLife.
The
16-year-old, who is one of the youth players promoted to the senior team this
season, missed El Kanemi Warriors second league game against Abia Warriors as
well as Wednesday’s tie against Lobi Stars due to school program but he hope to
be back in the next game.
“I played
street football before I joined El Kanemi Babes and I graduated to the El
Kanemi Warriors this season. I want to help El kanemi Warriors to win the
league this season. People should not judge us based on our last two games. Our
home loss to Wikki Tourists was hard luck because we played them hands down. If
not for our mistakes they could not have scored us. So we have put that lost
behind us and we are focusing on our next games. I hope to score goals if I
have chance to play again,” he declared.
