Examination stops Obomate from Giwa FC clash

Rivers United midfielder, Fredreick Obomate will miss match day four Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) clash against Giwa FC at the Rwang Pam Stadium, Jos.

The midfielder is currently writing his 400 level, first semester Structural Analysis (three) examinations at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) and will duly sit out Wednesday’s fixture.

Obomate has been a force of nature this season; scoring three and providing an assist for the Port Harcourt club this season.
Obomate feels pained but insists United will cope well enough in his absence.

“I felt very bad when I realized that I would not be able play (against Giwa FC) because of my exams in Port Harcourt. It was a similar situation in our last game (against Mountain of Fire and Miracles) in Lagos when I had to travel separately from the team (and arrived the match venue less than 24 hours to the game) because of academic duties,” the United schoolboy told Rivers United Media.

Despite his involvement in all of United’s league goals this season, the club’s experienced right back, Odinga Odinga does not believe their will crumble in the absence of their talisman.
“The coach (Stanley Eguma) has built the team around Obomate but now that he’s unavailable, someone else obviously has to take his place,” the veteran explained.

Odinga and Obomate were teammates at Sharks FC last season but their joint contributions failed to save the club from relegation at the end of the 2014/15 NPFL campaign.

The former Sharks captain however believes that Obomate was always meant to achieve great things in the game.

“He is a complete player and always wants to win.
“His business-like attitude sets him apart from his peers,” he said.

Obomate has been recently nominated by the League Bloggers for the top gong for February.
