KNEE INJURY: Akinbode denies visiting native doctors

Recuperating El Kanemi Warriors utility defender, Abdul Jelili Akinbode has dismissed a media report claiming that he consulted a native doctor for his knee treatment.

The former Akwa Starlet picked up a knee injury early February during the club’s pre-season training session in Maiduguri.

But the Lagos-based left back, who is currently recuperating in Kano State, told SportingLife that he is being treated by a trained physiotherapist.

“I don’t know where they got all these false reports. I am a Muslim and my religion does not allow me to have anything to do with native doctors. A well trained physiotherapist is giving me treatment and also advising me on what to do as regards my injury. I hope to be back very soon,” Akinbode told SportingLife.

An online report also alleged that the 21-year-old central defender was neglected by the club after his injury and he has been responsible for his hospital bills.

But Akinbode, who joined the club during the 2013/2014 season, said he was surprised with the report, insisting that the club is taking care of him.

“I saw a report making the rounds that I was abandoned by my club. I want to state categorically that I did not discuss with anybody concerning my injury and the treatment so I was surprised when I heard about the report. Maybe it is the imagination of the writer of the story,” Akinbode said.

He added: “I want to tell you that the club’s chairman, secretary and our media officer get in touch with me regularly concerning my injury. As at today, I still receive my salary regularly and everything on my treatment is well taken care of by the club because the club’s chairman, Mohammed Zanna assured me that the club is ready to do everything to ensure that I get the best treatment. I am a regular player in the club and I am enjoying my stay at El Kanemi,” he said.
