Our strikers let us down— Edema Benzon

Ikorodu United head coach, Edema Benzon has singled out his strikers’ poor performance for the team’s goalless draw against Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries Football Club (MFM) in a match day five Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL)on Sunday.

MFM were reduced to 10-men in the 45th of the game with defender Monsuru Olawale receiving a second yellow card in a drab Lagos derby at the Onikan Stadium, Lagos.

Benzon bemoaned his strikers’ failure to utilise a one-man advantage over their local rivals.

“I am not satisfied with the result. When the MFM were one-man down, I removed a midfielder and brought in another striker to make it five strikers on the pitch with the hope of putting pressure on our opponents and score goals. But at the end we could not score a goal. It is like that in football; you win, lose or draw. But I am not satisfied with the draw,” Benzon told SportingLife.

Benzon also dismissed insinuation making the rounds that he is a defensive-minded coach.

The Oga Boys had only managed to score a two goals in four matches played so far this season.

“I am not a defensive minded coach. We have played four matches now and everybody could see what we have been able to do so far. We played five strikers against MFM and we didn’t score one goal. I don’t think anything is wrong with the team. I think we have a lot of work to do on our strikers so that we can score more goals.”
